Compliance Manager Barcelona
Worldreader is looking for an experienced Compliance Manager. The Compliance Manager will work collaboratively with the Operations and Programs global teams to ensure compliance with national and international regulations, organizational policies and procedures, donor’s rules and regulations, and the statutory mandates. The Compliance Manager will make sure programmatic, financial, operational and grant management processes meet requirements and ensure weaknesses are improved and that best practices are adopted. This position reports to COO & General Counsel.
A great Compliance Manager is well-versed in legal guidelines and corporate governance best practices. They are professionals of high ethical standards and work diligently to complete their duties keeping in mind the objectives of the business.
Draft, modify and implement global compliance policies.
Facilitate GDPR Compliance. Advise on our compliance with GDPR and local data protection laws, monitoring our adherence to GDPR standards and acting as a point of contact with supervisory authorities and data subjects.
Assess the business’s future ventures to identify possible compliance risks
Lead the set-up compliance function for any new funds, including grantee manuals, legal document templates, compliance management tools at program and operations level;
Review and recommend changes or updates in policy and procedure manuals including grantee manuals for the different Funds;
Support the global teams to internalize compliance procedures through internal training, and other innovative approaches.
Collaborate with the HR department to monitor the enforcement of standards and regulations.
Keep abreast of regulatory developments within or outside of the organization as well as evolving best practices in compliance control.
Draft and solidify agreements, contracts, and other legal documents to ensure the organization’s full legal rights
Reviewing contracting documents and propose improvements;
Monitoring the contracts and ensure compliance/legal obligations are met;
Proven experience as compliance manager/legal counsel.
Excellent knowledge of reporting procedures and record keeping.
Methodical and diligent with outstanding planning abilities.
Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate and influence clearly both verbally and in written form English and Spanish.
BSc/BA in Law. A relevant Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
Legal authorization to work in the EU and the ability to travel nationally and internationally.
Nice to Have
DPO Certification will be considered an advantage
Prior work in an international organization or context.
Working knowledge of the regulations and compliance requirements of bilateral funding sources such as DFID, EuropeAid, USAID, etc.
Experience working in a startup environment.

The Worldreader Impact & Evaluation team has the crucial responsibility to collect, store and analyze book, readership and other data that help us make the business decisions that increase the impact of our reading programmes. As a Data Scientist you are a key member of the Worldreader Impact & Evaluation team, helping us to understand reader behaviour around the world so that we can get more people reading. The team currently handles millions of rows of data and uses Redshift and other tools.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an international edtech nonprofit, and play a critical role as we grow and scale to our next level. You’ll work with large data sets from applications already used by millions of people each month, and provide insights to inform the future impact of our work.
ResponsibilitiesDevelop models to help us understand our readers’ behaviour via impact and outcome modeling & analysis. Design experiments to test hypothesis. Develop predictive and decision models that would allow us to proactively engage readers and potential readers. Conduct a variety of research, modeling, and analysis, e.g., segmentation analysis, user profiling, quantitative and qualitative research & analysis, etc. Suport the monitoring and evaluation work required by our programmes through metric and indicator development, outlining features/variables required for assessing a programme in relation to its goals and objectives, or other tasks. Communicate across and partner with internal teams to understand the challenges they face and provide comprehensive solutions. Find opportunities to craft products out of analyses that are suitable for multiple teams. Partner with our tech team to identify and build tools for data science. Other data analysis or data science work as assigned.
QualificationsThree to five years work experience in data science, business analysis, or quantitative research. MSc or Ph.D. degree in Informatics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience. Ability to translate business needs into models and data products. Excellent communication skills, and ability to influence product and leadership teams. Functional and technical expertise in mathematics, statistics, and machine learning with a focus on learning from data. Expertise in functional, scripting, and object oriented languages; at least one production environment language and one parallel language. Of interest; R, Scala, Java, MatLab, Julia, Bash, Python, and frameworks such as Apache Spark. Proficiency with the following tools: 1) Amazon (Redshift, CodeDeploy, EC2, EMR, Data Pipeline, Athena, Glue, etc), 2) Microsoft Azure tools, especially databases, 3) GitHub, or other version control systems.
